The government of Japan has pledged to support in investment and trade, development and reconciliation in Sri Lanka. This was stated in a joint declaration issued today after the official bilateral discussions between the two prime ministers of Sri Lanka and Japan. During the discussion between the two premiers, priority has been given to strengthening trade ties between Sri Lanka and Japan. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Japanese Premier Shinzo Abe have discussed about implementing a broad development plan in Sri Lanka. One of the proposals made confirmed during the discussion is to convene a high level entrepreneurs’ summit with the participation of Sri Lanka -Japan businessmen in Colombo next year. In addition, the Japanese Prime Minister has agreed to provide more employment opportunities for Sri Lankans. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe delivered a special speech before Japanese parliamentarians. During his one hour speech, Premier Wickremesinghe said that Japan is expected to provide a pioneering contribution at a time the current government of Sri Lanka has reached before the economic transition of South East Asia. The Premier further said that assistance of Japan is sought to hold a donor’s summit in order to improve the social and economic condition of the then crises hit areas of the island.
